The Story Behind the Zine Library
Founded in 2003 by Jamez Terry and Kelly Shortandqueer, the Denver Zine Library began with just a couple thousand zines and a big dream. At first, the collection lived in a backyard shed. After bouncing through different spaces, DZL finally found a permanent home inside the Bob Ragland branch of Denver Public Library. Today, it thrives as an independent, volunteer-run archive in partnership with DPL.
A Collection Like No Other
The Denver Zine Library houses over 20,000 zines covering everything from comics and poetry to politics and travel diaries. Because each zine is often one-of-a-kind, they keep only one copy of each. Visitors can check out up to five zines for three weeks at a time. Returns are simple too, thanks to a convenient drop-box on the door.
